South Main Baptist Church is a dynamic faith community committed to being Christ’s people, reflecting His light, and growing God’s kingdom.
The members of South Main Baptist Church believe that church ought to be a safe place to ask real and hard questions… and to grapple with their answers. At South Main, we welcome the skeptical questions and the difficult questions as we journey together toward a deeper understanding of an unfathomable God. We seek to include and not cast out, to share the love of Jesus Christ and God’s abounding Grace with everyone, and to nurture and support one another as we journey together along life’s path. Because it was offered to us, we seek to share God’s grace with others and welcome all to be a part of the family of God in this place.
A Legacy of Diversity
South Main has always been a place that has embraced diversity within the congregation. Throughout the church’s history, SMBC has been known for progressive stances regarding issues such as civil rights and women in ministry. Our church was one of the first to launch a program for single adults. South Main is richly diverse, with members of widely varying ethnicities, ages, life situations, and doctrinal opinions. Whatever your life situation, age, ethnicity, or place in your faith journey, there is a place for you at South Main.
A Passion for Service
South Mainers have an incredible passion for service in the community. We have a rich variety of ministries to groups such as: internationals, the homebound elderly, cancer patients, and a joint effort food and clothing distribution center. We also partner with other community ministries to help the homeless and disadvantaged. South Mainers serve others even beyond the borders of our country through shoe drives for orphans, mission efforts to the Rio Grande valley, and trips to help people around the world in places such as North Africa and Peru. There is a place for you to connect and to serve as we help the community… together.
We invite you to discover community with us… at South Main Baptist Church.
