Young and Median Adults South Main @ Home
Young and Median Adult Sunday School communities meet each Sunday from 9:40-10:40 a.m. We have a system of rotating teachers, which lead seminars in our communities for ten weeks at a time. And these are not your normal run-of-the-mill topics. We offer subjects such as various books and passages of the Bible (The Life of David, Gospel of Mark, Pauline Epistles, etc.); Christian conversations on “hot topics” such as war and peace or cloning; explorations of Genesis and the origins of life; Church history on the Reformation; book studies such as C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters; understanding the elements and perils of Fundamentalism; dealing with difficult life experiences such as grief, and many, many more topics. Our teachers offer the expertise of years of study and life experience to their topics, bringing intelligence, candor, and grace to your experience of learning.
We also strive to bring an excellent experience of community to each person who visits Sunday School. You are important to God and important to us, and we want you to know and experience God’s love through your visit to SMBC.
We are about creating a safe place in our Adult Sunday School here at South Main where people can experience and give sacrificial love. It is a place where we focus our energies on the Greatest Commandments of Christ: to love God with heart, mind, soul and strength and to love each other as ourselves. Sunday School is the place where we experience Faith Development through our relationships and our instruction. It is a place of lifelong learning and lifelong community with a family of faith. It is a place where each person can be empowered to carry out their individual ministry gifts. Come and join us this Sunday at 9:40!
The Incredible Journey Advent to Ascension A Study of Luke’s Account of the Life of Jesus
Join us for an in-depth study of Luke’s account of Jesus’ life-journey. Starting in Advent we will celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas and journey with him, through the New Year, to his baptism, ministry, mounting opposition, and crucifixion, finally rejoicing in his resurrection on Easter Sunday. His life-journey, as he encounters people and situations and changes them and is changed by them, can give insight to our own journeys as we seek to know God’s purpose for our lives.
Open to all members of the congregation regardless of age, gender or marital status. It is primarily designed for those who have little or no Bible study experience or those who wish to increase their basic knowledge of the Bible. It is hoped that newer members of the congregation who have not yet found a Sunday school community will consider joining the class. At the completion of the study members will be encouraged to find a permanent Sunday School community or return to their previous community.
Beginning November 22 the class will meet every Sunday morning (except December 20 and January 31) through April 11 in Fellowship Hall from 9:40 to 10:45.
