We will remain with our Single Service Schedule on Sunday, September 10
10:00 AM Worship
11:00 AM Sunday School
As we recover from our community’s recent upheaval, our church will worship together in a single service this Sunday before returning to our regular schedule for the rest of the Fall. This Sunday, September 10, please join your church family in the Sanctuary, as we all worship together at 10:00 AM, followed by Sunday School at 11:00 AM.

Saturday, September 2, 2017 Update

Church family,

We look forward to worshiping together at 10:00 AM tomorrow in the Sanctuary. After worship, we will focus on finding ways to serve our city through loading shoes, working on a construction crew, or helping a neighbor in need. Feel free to wear casual clothes to facilitate serving immediately after worship. Pastor Steve will preach in jeans!

Reminder that there is no Sunday School or food service (no coffee or lunch) tomorrow.  We will collect our normal EAC Food Pantry donations tomorrow.

Friday, September 1, 2017 Update

South Main family,

As a reminder, we have one worship service at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary on Sunday followed immediately by completing our shoe collection mission effort. Please recall there will be no Sunday School and no food service (coffee or lunch).

Because the shoes are staying here in Houston this year for those in need in our city, the nature of our sorting work is different this year and much of it has already been accomplished. Sunday’s work will be focused on loading the truck for delivery.

However, if you are looking for an opportunity to continue serving, consider signing up to join one of our construction teams during this, our city’s season of recovery.  No special skill is required. We mainly need hands and willing hearts. To be placed on a team, fill out this form and a member of our team will be in touch, or sign up Sunday at the table in the Welcome Center.

And continue your prayers for those who have sustained loss in the storm.

Grace and peace,

Your SMBC Staff

Wednesday, August 30, 2017 Update

South Main family,

As we are in varying stages of relief and recovery, please know your staff is in prayer for you and is working hard on meeting physical needs as well.

At SMBC, Bill Pugh and his staff are also working hard to clean up the Fellowship Hall and kitchen. It will be a while before we can provide food service out of our kitchen or use the Fellowship Hall.

Here is the schedule for our church family over the next few days:

Thursday, August 31

*9 AM Shoe packing will happen in the Welcome Center.  There will NOT be childcare for shoe packing; please bring your own coffee.

*Play Days will not meet.

Sunday, September 3

*We want to focus on 2 things this Sunday: worship and serving our city. Therefore we will have one worship service at 10:00 AM as planned, then go straight to packing shoes. There will be NO Sunday School this week.

As a reminder, Play Days will follow the HISD cancellation schedule.

Wednesday, September 6

*Picnic on the Lawn has been cancelled.

*Music rehearsals will take place as scheduled.

Grace and peace,

Your SMBC Staff

Tuesday, August 29, 2017 Update

The support and prayers from across the country have been overwhelming. Thank you! People are also asking, “how can we more tangibly help?” Today we are still in the rescue phase with the relief and recovery phases following immediately after as soon as roads are passable. Here are some ways to support the beginning of the clean up/recovery efforts in the Houston and Southeast Texas area:

1) Please pray for victims of the flooding from Harvey.

2) Donate money specifically for relief to one of the following agencies:

South Main Baptist Church Hurricane Relief Fund – We will use money for construction supplies as our team helps rebuild members’ homes and for other items needed to make people whole after this deluge. Enter the amount in the “Hurricane Relief” box.

Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s Harvey Relief Fund

Texas Baptist Men

3) Give of your time:

Come to shoe unpacking time this Thursday morning, August 31, from 9-12. The shoes will remain in Houston this year to meet needs locally.

Help with the recovery phase. If you have time and willingness to help church members, fill out this form and a member of our construction team will be in touch.

Volunteer at a shelter near you.

Monday, August 28, 2017 Update

Dear South Main family,

Due to travel difficulties in our city and recovery time needed for people to deal with clean up from Harvey’s devastation, South Main’s campus will be closed through Wednesday, August 30.

Play Days will be closed all week following HISD’s schedule.

We will update the church office schedule for the latter part of the week as soon as those decisions are made.

Please continue to check on your neighbors and other church members as you are able and communicate with your Community Leaders and/or the ministerial staff as needs arise (

Grace and peace during this difficult time,

Your SMBC Staff

Sunday, August 27, 2017

Due to catastrophic weather conditions in our city, officials have asked Houstonians to stay in their homes. Therefore we have cancelled worship this morning, August 27. Please continue to be safe, take care of your neighbor, and communicate congregation needs as you can to

We continue to caution all members of our congregation to refrain from taking unnecessary risks with travel during the duration of the severe weather conditions now approaching the Texas coast.

The church office, campus, and Play Days will follow the closure schedule of HISD. HISD will be closed on Monday, August 28; therefore the church office will be closed and there will be no MainStreamers meeting or lunch. Check this page for changes as they occur.

Please check on members of your Sunday School communities over the next few days and let community leaders and/or staff know of any problems that arise. Continue to pray for our city and state.
