Dr. Anton Armstrong recently completed his residency at Baylor University as recipient of the Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching. He is the Harry R. and Thora H. Tosdal Professor of Music at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, serving as conductor of the St. Olaf Choir. He received a bachelor's of music in vocal performance from St. Olaf College, a master's degree in choral music from the University of Illinois, and a doctorate in choral conducting from Michigan State University. Prior to teaching and conducting at St. Olaf, Dr. Armstrong served on the faculty at Calvin College.
Under his leadership, the St. Olaf Choir has toured stateside and internationally, recording 11 CDs during this time. He is also active as a guest conductor and lecturer, recently leading the Texas All-State Choir this past spring at the annual Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) convention in San Antonio. His leadership at TMEA was a continuation of his work with youth and children's choral music, which has included work with the Oregon Bach Festival Youth Choral Academy, the World Youth Choir sponsored by the International Federation of Choral Music, the American Boychoir School in Princeton, N.J., and the St. Cecilia Youth Chorale based in Grand Rapids, Mich.
