MUSIC MINISTRY

Quality music has always
been an important part of South Main’s worship.
In fact, the dedication service for the new sanctuary
in 1930 included Haydn’s The Heavens Are Telling
as well as wonderful congregational singing. This heritage
of great music and deep experiences of worship extends
back to the birth of the church.
Since 1955, South Main has had a fully graded choir
program initiated under the ministry of Thad Roberts.
Today’s music ministry includes some 400 members
involved in 12 choirs/music activities, five vocal ensembles,
two instrumental ensembles, and five handbell choirs.
These groups meet regularly to train children, learn
hymns, develop and sharpen musical skills, to prepare
music for worship and spread the gospel through music.
