Interim Youth Ministers

j-and-suz

Suzann Herrmann (suzann@smbc.org) and J Hill (j@smbc.org) are currently serving as our Interim Youth Ministry Associates.  J and Suzann have existing relationships with our youth as well as amazing gifts which complement each other.

Suzann grew up at South Main, received an engineering degree from Montana Tech, and began working with the youth department four years ago.

J Hill, his wife Hillevi, and their daughter Isabella who is a senior in high school, are also familiar to our congregation. J grew up at South Main and seven years ago he became a consistent leader in the youth area teaching Sunday School, going to retreats, and leading at youth camp.

Family Lenten Devotional Guide and Posters

The act of setting aside time together every week as we make our way to Easter is a holy practice with rich and long lasting rewards as a family tradition. This Lenten season, we are providing beautiful and engaging resources for your family to do just that: gather together twice a week and ponder the biblical account of the last days and hours of Jesus’s life with questions and stories from the “Stations of the Cross” Family Lenten Devotional Guide and corresponding coloring pages and posters as a means to slow us down and refocus our attention on the eternal consequences of Christ’s life and death (before the eggs and bunnies and candy and Hallelujahs divert our attention). If you haven’t already done so, please pick up 1 devotional guide and 1 large poster for your family AND a 1 box of crayons or markers or colored pencils and a set of coloring pages for EACH child in your family. On Sundays, these will be available in the Chafin Building (adult Sunday School), in the Youth Center, and on the first floor of the Loessner Building (children’s Sunday School).

We will display ALL of the family posters throughout the campus so please DROP OFF COMPLETED POSTERS at designated places in youth/children’s area on Sundays or Wednesdays during March with your family name written on the back of the poster.

Youth Camp 2017

Mark your calendars now for Youth Camp 2017. We will fly out of Hobby airport early on the morning of Sunday, July 16 into the Denver airport and return on the evening of Friday, July 21.We take a shuttle to/from the Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA and we are staying in the Silver Sage Lodge with rooms that sleep 6 (1 queen and 2 sets of bunkbeds) and have a private bathroom. Activities at the Y include basketball, billiards, foosball, indoor swimming pool, indoor roller rink, table tennis, volleyball, bocce ball, croquet, hiking, horseshoes, ladderball, trike park, 18 hole mini golf, trail running/walking, and a summer tubing hill in addition to other great activities for additional cost. Snow Mountain Ranch is just 10 miles from Winter Park so we can return for there for additional activities. I’m working on a new approach for small group and Bible study that I think leans into the developmentally appropriate needs of the kids. Also, we are going camp alone this year, so no other churches will be joining us. Lots of change this year, but promise to hold on to the “can’t live without traditions” which is why Kevin Sinclair will be joining us as our Camp Preacher!

Cost for camp is $525 and a 50% down payment will be due May 15.
