Midtown Midweek - February 27

Hear Matt Walton wrap up our look through the Gospel of John in chapter 20.

Wednesday, February 27, 2019 - 6:30pm

This Wednesday we conclude our study through the Gospel of John with a new beginning, the dawn of new creation on Easter morning. This week we will reflect upon Christ’s resurrection and the implications of this new reality for the world. In John 20 Jesus will ask Mary the question He has asked many others in this Gospel, “Who is it you are looking for?” That question lingers in our own ears. Who is it we are looking for? Mary searched for her Lord, laid dead in the tomb. She did not find him there. Perhaps the gardener had taken him? But then, Jesus called her by name - Mary. She turned and, in that moment, the world turned with her into Easter life. Mary discovered what the Prologue promised in John 1:12, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” Friends, when we believe in His name, Jesus calls us by name, and gives us a new name - the children of God.”
