Operación San Andrés Update

Published October 13, 2021 by SMBC

The economic impact of the global pandemic has been particularly severe in third-world countries such as Peru. One result has been increased hunger in the community of Collique, served by South Main's ministry partner, Operación San Andrés (OSA).

To address this problem, OSA has partnered with almost 50 soup kitchens that have sprung up all around Collique. OSA provides non-perishable food items such as rice, sugar, dried peas, beans, lentils, and cooking oil to these soup kitchens that provide a nutritious meal to more than 3000 people each day.

In addition to providing nourishing food, OSA shares the good news of Jesus Christ with these communities. During the last week of October, a small group of South Main members will travel to Peru for a time of strategic planning and team building with the OSA staff in Peru.

Luis and Ruth Campos, Janice Anderson, Bill Carpenter, Todd Jurek, Sam Law, and Vince Smith appreciate your prayer support while they are in Peru making plans for expanding the OSA ministry in 2022. As always, OSA appreciates the support of South Main Baptist Church in its mission: To alleviate the effects of poverty in Peru by transforming families through the love of Christ.
