Inclement Weather Update

January 25, 2026 at 10:00 am

South Main Baptist Church will have online worship only on Sunday, January 25th, and the offices will be closed on Monday the 26th. The business meeting has been postponed to Sunday, February 1.

This morning we made the decision to keep the campus closed tomorrow and Monday. I want you to know we do not take closing the campus lightly.

We have been studying the weather very closely this week, receiving twice-daily forecasts targeted to our area from a respected meteorologist. Our campus is on the southeast edge of this storm and whether the roads will be dangerously icy or impassable or whether they will be clear and safe will be determined by a temperature difference of as little as 2°; that small distinction has made this decision difficult. The latest analysis of the storm, from 8:00 AM this morning, shows that actual temperatures in our area are coming in about 2° lower than the best models available. Add to that, Mayor Whitmire has asked all Houstonians to stay home and off the roads from this evening at 5:00 until roads are declared safe.

With all that in mind, and knowing we have the technology to deliver the service to your home, we made the decision to close the campus. I hope this proves to be the wrong decision because that will mean our city will be safer and lives will be saved. And, I believe this is the right decision to make with the information we have.

Please stay home and be safe. If you need any help during the course of this storm, please do not hesitate to contact one of our ministers, your Adult Bible Community leader, or a deacon.
