It may not feel like it outside, but we are on the verge of our Fall Discipleship Kickoff at South Main. On Sunday, August 16 we return to our regular Discipleship schedule at 11:00 AM for all ages. Kids throughout the Family Ministry promote to new age groups and continue to develop an authentic and lasting faith in Jesus Christ. After a summer break our Adult Bible Communities (ABCs) return to their regular rooms for a time of fellowship and potluck snacks shared together. Then, on August 23, our rotating teachers begin their first Bible study series of the fall in all our ABCs.
Our annual fall rhythm, returning together in small groups, reminds us that God has established the world around the rhythm of new life, springing up in the power of Christ’s resurrection. Like Nicodemus learning in John 3 that we can be born anew, each fall we have the opportunity to recenter, to renew our life patterns such that we make space for God’s presence within us and among us. Our fall kickoff, then, is more than merely a chance to get back on our regular schedule. This is an opportunity to start fresh with the pattern of our living; to set our sight together on discovering God’s Word and discovering God’s family in the rhythm of our days. As we live anew together in discipleship this fall we just might find that the Holy Spirit is active to settle deep in our hearts, to alter our understanding, to renovate our very selves.
So whether you’ve been out for the summer or you’ve never attended an Adult Bible Community, I invite you to join us in an ABC beginning August 16. We have a spot for you, and we want to be family with you. We’re all starting anew, so this is the best time to jump back in. I look forward to learning with you, growing with you, and serving with you in another fall of shared faith.
