Sermon – "On the Way"

Mark 10:46-11:10

On Palm Sunday, we looked at three versions of how those who encountered Jesus near the end of His life expressed their devotion to Him. The crowds along the road in Jerusalem cast their cloaks before Him, showing their devotion to Him as a conquering earthly king. The disciples cast their cloaks on the donkey which Jesus rode into Jerusalem, expressing that their devotion to Him was contingent on controlling His path ahead toward political and earthly power. However, in the chapter of Mark’s Gospel just prior to the triumphant entrance into Jerusalem, a blind man named Bartimaeus, threw his cloak off, casting it aside when he was called by Jesus to follow Him. This Holy Week, examine the nature of your devotion to Jesus, consider who you believe Jesus to be, and truly follow Him.
