We pick up our series focused on the astonishing stained glass windows adorning our remarkable 100-year-old Sanctuary, Between the Stained Glass. This week, in the panel known as the Conquest of the Promised Land, we will look at a beautiful window in which a grape cluster is pictured, recalling the story about Israelite spies entering the Promised Land and reporting back to Moses. In our text from the book of Numbers, several spies returned providing a positive report of the land but with a distinct fearfulness of the people who lived there. Only Caleb and Joshua reported back without trepidation, offering us a picture of faith over fear. This story encourages us to ask whether we ourselves believe we live in a moment when God has run out of blessing or whether we trust God as we move onward into our own future.
