Matt Walton brings our message this week focused on three episodes involving Jesus’ followers and their cloaks. Only a week before He is crucified, those in Jerusalem drop their cloaks upon the ground before Him as if He is a conquering earthly king. Just prior to this, Jesus’ own disciples toss their cloaks upon a donkey as a kind of saddle, attempting to frame and control His entrance into the city as the sort of Messiah they wish Him to be, one who would serve their own personal interests. Most interestingly of all, just before all of this, Jesus heals a blind man named Bartimaeus who, upon Jesus’ call for him to rise, throws his cloak aside, abandoning it as he obeys Jesus and is healed, his vision wholly restored.
