Yuri McCoy Recital, Friday, April 9 7:00 PM

April 9, 2021 at 7:00 pm

The Easter Alleluias continue on Friday, April 9 at 7:00 PM with a rare live performance of NiccolÚ Castiglioni's masterpiece for organ, choir, and percussion. His Symphony of War and Peace depicts scenes from Revelations and the Old Testament, and, since its composition in 1968, has only been performed by two other organists. This polystylistic work is hugely complex, drawing on composition styles as disparate as Monteverdi, Mozart, and Charles Ives. Castiglioni, having never written for the organ, had no inhibitions. Throughout the work, he invents new, unprecedented sounds and textures, bringing the narrative to life and tying the Symphony altogether.

Reservations are required for in-person attendance and the recital will also be online at www.smbc.org.
