Play Days (Parents' Day Out)

Play Days is a Parents' Day Out program dedicated to preschoolers and their parents, and is an extension of the South Main Baptist Church Family Ministry. Children, from birth through pre-kindergarten, enjoy educational, spiritual, and physical play in a happy and loving environment. Play Days meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with additional extended hours available, not just during the school year but through the summer as well.

Registration

New children may join Play Days anytime during the year, if space is available in the appropriate class. Please email playdays@smbc.org for information about upcoming class availability, tours, waiting lists and registration. Please include your child's name and date of birth in the e-mail. Once you are enrolled in Play Days, you will receive a monthly newsletter with information about schedules and events.

As part of the registration process, you will be required to sign a “Release, Waiver and Indemnity Agreement”.  This waiver is signed online, and must be renewed each year. There is also a one-time, family registration fee of $75.00 that must be paid before we can schedule a start date.

Twice a year, you will be asked to complete a survey about your child’s attendance plans for the coming months.  Please complete these promptly, since they help us plan for staff and allocate space for new children.  

Timely completion of the surveys and waiver are required to maintain your child’s enrollment in Play Days.

 
Tuition Plans

We have two tuition payment plans. You may switch back and forth between these plans as many times as you like, at the start of any month.

  • Monthly (every Tuesday and Thursday): $210 per month per child

  • Single days "à la carte": $30 per day per child

Tuition payments for each month are due in advance by the 5th day of the month. A $20 late fee applies to any payments made after this date.

You must pre-pay for all "à la carte" Play Days days that you will use in a given month before the payment due date for that month. If you purchase "à la carte" days after the 5th day of the month and use them the same month, you will incur a $20 late fee. However, pre-paid "à la carte" days never expire; so if you do not use them in the month they were purchased, they can be used in future months.

We try to keep our tuition plans simple and flexible and the costs reasonable. For this reason, there are no refunds of Play Days payments, nor are there any discounts or credits on monthly plans for days when your child is absent or when Play Days does not meet. You will be notified about scheduled closures in advance, and you may switch to "à la carte" days for those months if you wish. 

Payments

Payments for children who are registered in the Play Days program should be made here: Play Days Payment. Our preferred payment method is online, by either bank draft or credit card. Alternatively, you may pay by check, made out to South Main Baptist Church. Cash is not accepted.

 
Calendar

Play Days meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM throughout the year. Play Days Extended Hours are available from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM on most Tuesdays and Thursdays all year. (For more information on Play Days Extended Hours, see below.)

Play Days is not offered on Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, selected days around Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. All holiday closures are announced in advance in the Play Days monthly newsletter. 

Arrival and Dismissal

Play Days begins at 9:30 AM and ends at 2:30 PM. You may drop off and pick up your child at any time during those hours.

We use an online system called KidCheck to check-in children, record attendance, and document important information about your family. Before your child attends Play Days for the first time, please visit the KidCheck site and sign up for a free account. Please make sure that your KidCheck profile includes the names of all people that are allowed to pick up your child, including the other parent. On your child's profile, please include any information about allergies or medications, so that this information will be available for our staff.

Every time your child comes to Play Days, you will check her or him in on our KidCheck computer or using the Mobile App. Directions for the app can be shared once you have attended the first time. At that time, you will be given three labels. Place one label on your child, one on their bag, and keep the  guardian receipt for yourself. The guardian receipt is required to pick up your child. If someone else is picking up your child, you may take a picture of the guardian receipt and text it.

We ask that you please do not go into your child’s room with them at drop-off. You may provide written instructions for teachers at the door when you drop off your child.

What to Bring

  • A healthy, cold lunch for your child. Please, no food that requires heating.
  • Bottles or sippy cups for children that are not yet able to drink from a cup.
  • Five to seven diapers, if needed. Wipes will be provided.
  • A complete change of clothes in case of a potty accident, dirt on the playground, art messes, or spills.
  • A nap mat and any special transitional object, such as a blanket or stuffed animal, to help with nap time.

Play Days Class Descriptions

Nursery

Our nursery program is for babies from birth through 16 months. Two nap times are provided in this class, and teachers work hard to accommodate each child's individual schedule, including feedings, naps, and playtime. Toys, swings, ExerSaucers, and mats are available for play. Our ratio of caretakers to babies does not exceed 1:4, which is lower than State requirements.

Toddlers

Our toddler program includes children who are walking and require one nap per day. Children range in age from approximately 15 to 24 months. Based on attendance, this class is divided into two groups by age. Teachers provide a structured routine, with activities including story time, songs/dance time and free play in the classroom or in the Indoor Toddler Playroom and lunch.  Our ratio of caretakers to toddlers does not exceed 1:7, which is lower than State requirements.

Preschoolers

The preschool classes are for children from age 2 through Pre-Kindergarten and are provided with a naptime or rest time as appropriate. Teachers provide a structured routine with activities including circle time, story & song time, crafts, free play in the classroom & Indoor & Outdoor playgrounds, lunch, and special events. Our ratio of caretakers to preschoolers does not exceed 1:9, which is lower than State requirements.

 
Other Play Days policies

Food and Snacks

Please provide a healthy breakfast for your child before drop-off. Please do not send breakfast in with your child. Snacks will be provided. Examples include goldfish, graham crackers, Ritz crackers, etc. If your child follows a special diet, please pack your own snacks and let the childcare workers know at drop-off.

Injury

In the unlikely event that a child incurs a serious injury, a paramedic/ambulance will be called immediately. Parents or alternate emergency contacts will be called when a child receives any injury that causes them significant discomfort, preventing them from participating in activities. An Incident Report will be completed by Play Days teachers, and a copy will be provided to parents, whenever a child requires first aid such as a Band-Aid or ice pack.

Illness

Children exhibiting any of the following symptoms will not be allowed to attend Play Days:

  • Fever (temperature of 100°F or greater)
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Eye irritation: Thick mucus or pus draining from the eye or pink coloring on the whites of the eye
  • Rash or open skin lesions or blisters (as in chicken pox, fever blister, or impetigo)
  • Lice, scabies, ringworm, or other contagious skin conditions

Children must be free of symptoms for at least 24 hours prior to returning to activities. Staff will not administer medications except in the case of extreme allergic reactions.

Parents will be notified immediately of any signs of illness while the child is under the care of Play Days personnel.

Play Days Extended Hours

Play Days Extended Hours are available after the end of scheduled Play Days activities, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.  

The cost for Extended Hours is $90 for the whole month, or $15 per day. This is in addition to regular Play Days fees. As with regular fees, all Extended Hours fees for the month should be paid in advance, by the 5th day of the month.  The regular online payment form has a place to add Extended Hours. If you pay by check, please add the appropriate amount and include a note. Like pre-paid "a la carte" days, pre-paid Extended Hours daily tickets do not expire. They may be used in future months, whenever Extended Hours are available. If you pay the monthly Extended Hours rate, there are no refunds or credits for unused days.

NOTE: If you plan to use Extended Hours more than 6 days in one month, you will find that the monthly rate is less expensive than paying for individual Extended Hours daily tickets. In these cases, you may pay the Extended Hours monthly rate, even if you are paying for your regular Play Days “à la carte”.

The sign-in sheet at the door of each classroom has a space to indicate if your child is staying for Extended Hours. Please mark it when you drop off your child.

The cost for extended hours is the same, whether you use all or only part of the two hours.
