Music Ministry

Music speaks a language that words alone cannot. Through vocal and instrumental ensembles of all ages, we use the language of music to express the joys and sorrows of our daily lives. In addition to the Sanctuary Choir, South Main also has vocal ensembles for women and men; handbells for adults, youth, and children; and instrumental ensembles that regularly participate in worship. We also have youth and children’s choirs that introduce young people to the joy of music as part of Christian life.

Make a Joyful Noise Here.

Music Programs

South Main has a long tradition of making beautiful music. Between the Sanctuary Choir, vocal and instrumental ensembles, bell choirs, and youth and children's programs, there is a place for everyone to make a "joyful noise"—whatever your age or gifts.

Worship & Special Events

The liturgical calendar brings rhythm and structure to worship at South Main. Music plays a special role in bringing each season to life, and all of South Main's choirs and ensembles share in the special musical offerings of these seasons.

About Our Organ

Organ music has been an important ingredient in worship at South Main since 1934, when the original Sanctuary pipe organ was installed. In 2014, on the advice of several nationally recognized organ builders, South Main began the process of rebuilding the organ, enlarging the resonating chambers, and replacing everything but the best pipework. The new organ, built by Nichols and Simpson, has brought this classic instrument up to 21st-century standards.

“Worship, discover, share” is South Main’s roadmap for Christian discipleship. Each week, we endeavor to worship God, discover God’s Word, and share with each other and those in need, as we seek balance, direction, and a sacred rhythm for our lives.
