South Main Baptist Church is located at 4100 Main Street in Houston. Our campus sits at the corner of Main Street and Richmond Avenue, in the heart of Midtown. Halfway between downtown and the Texas Medical Center, South Main is a beautiful oasis in the bustling, cosmopolitan city of Houston.
Our Sanctuary—originally completed in 1930 and fully renovated in 2017—is an inspiring setting for worship, encouraging each person in the congregation to be present with God as we gather with one another on Sunday mornings.
The stained-glass windows along both sides of the Sanctuary illustrate moments in the life of Christ in the main windows, with the books of the Bible presented in smaller windows below. The Nichols and Simpson organ complements the visual experience with magnificent and uplifting sound. The Westmoreland Chapel, with its own organ and stained-glass back wall, is another treasured meditative space, often used for special services and weddings, as well as for Spanish-language Bible study and worship.
In addition to worship spaces, the campus features rooms for classes and small group meetings, and plenty of areas for formal and informal fellowship. The Fellowship Hall, located below the Sanctuary, hosts Sunday lunches and midweek dinners, prepared onsite in a full kitchen. The Loessner (“Low-zhnur”) Building in the middle of campus houses our Welcome Center, along with classrooms, church library, and prayer room. The cool and shaded prayer garden in between the Sanctuary and the Loessner Building is a favorite spot for reflection
Our Family Ministry areas for infants, children, tweens, and youth are safe, consciously designed, attractive spaces that include a nursery, well-equipped classrooms for all ages, hang-outs, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, libraries, and dedicated worship areas—as well as comfortable gathering spaces in between for parents and caregivers to catch their breath and recharge.
Our front lawn facing Main Street is big enough for the occasional church picnic, and the north end of our campus has an outdoor chapel, called Trinity Pines Chapel, where we worship every Sunday with some of our homeless neighbors.
We sincerely hope that the green space and well-maintained structures and grounds of South Main will serve as an invitation and a welcome to all to experience God's Grace with us here.
