Phased Reopening Updates

In accordance with its Guiding Principles, the South Main Covid-19 Advisory Task Force endorses the following phased plan for reopening South Main safely. We are currently in Phase 4: Socially Distanced Worship.

Detailed Guidelines & Safety Protocols for Phases 1, 2, 3, & 4

Phase 1: Stay Home, Stay Connected

During this phase we stay home, and stay connected with Worship and Sunday School online, virtual meetings, and remote work. A move to Phase 2 requires a prolonged period of flat or downward trends in the benchmark data.

Phase 2: Limited Gatherings

During this phase we resume small outdoor gatherings for adults, Tribe, and youth of 25 or fewer people, and small indoor gatherings for adults, Tribe, and youth of 10 or fewer people. Examples of these gatherings include sub-groups of Sunday School Communities meeting in front/back yards of people’s homes, small groups of Tribe or youth meeting outdoors on campus, and small leadership meetings at the church. Safety protocols include mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing. Worship and regular Sunday School meetings continue online, and office work is mostly remote. A move to Phase 3 requires further downward trends in the benchmark data.

Phase 3: Expanded Gatherings

During this phase we expand our indoor capacity to gatherings of 25 or fewer for adults, Tribe, and youth. We also begin indoor gatherings for MainKids of 10 or fewer. Examples of these gatherings include larger Sunday School Communities meeting outdoors, leadership meetings at the church, and activities for small groups of MainKids. We also expand our outdoor gatherings to 50 or fewer people for adults, Tribe, and youth, and 25 or fewer for MainKids. Safety protocols include mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing, and indoor meetings are limited to two hours in length. Worship and Sunday School continue online, and office work is mostly remote. A move to Phase 4 requires moderate / controlled transmission of the virus according to benchmark data.

CURRENT: Phase 4: Socially Distanced Worship

During this phase we resume worship in the Sanctuary in a reduced capacity, and expand the capacity of indoor gatherings for adults, MainKids, Tribe, and youth. Examples of these gatherings include Sunday Morning Worship, more in-person gatherings on campus with expanded capacity. Safety protocols include mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing, and seating in the Sanctuary will be spaced to ensure at least six feet between individuals/families. Worship and Sunday School will also continue online for those uncomfortable with returning to the campus, and staff will gradually return to campus with limited capacity. A move to Phase 5 requires minimal / controlled transmission of the virus according to benchmark data.

Phase 5: Return to Normal

During this phase we resume all gatherings — Worship, Sunday School, etc. — at normal capacity. Safety protocols continue, and include mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing.
