Tend the Table

During the Month of April

In April, South Main is joining with other churches in our community to emphasize the value of sitting down at a table to share a meal with one another and feeding the hungry. The hope is that as we Tend the Table together we will be inviting each other—family, friends, neighbors, and strangers—into a warm and beautiful context where meaning is generated and memorable and lasting connections are made and fortified. Our emphasis on sharing and tending the table is also meant to deepen our relationships with other churches and present us with new chances to serve one another. Read below for our opportunities to serve and fellowship during April!

Serve Saturday

On Saturday, April 13 at 8:30 AM we will gather at South Main for brief instruction and then head out by 9:00 AM to work alongside sister congregations serving our neighborhood partners. The service opportunities this day are beautification projects at MacGregor Elementary, light repair work at Magnificat House, and food distribution at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Children are welcome to participate or, if you prefer, childcare is available at SMBC by signing up below. If you plan to attend Serve Saturday, please complete the form below. If you have questions or need more information, contact J Hill.

Men's Fellowship

Jesus nurtured connection and transformation with those closest to him while around the table. During moments of shared food, fellowship, and gratitude, Jesus blessed his followers and beckoned them toward life in His Kingdom. During the month of April we will likewise Tend the Table with one another. We will look for ways to connect as the South Main family in order to share, bless, and encourage one another as we follow Jesus together.

Join us for a multi-generational Tend the Table Men’s Fellowship event on Saturday, April 27 starting at 5:30 PM in Tribe Space/Gym. Tribe & Youth boys and adult men of all ages are invited to enjoy tournament-style games and the opportunity to connect and have fun with other South Main men. Cornhole, ping pong, and 3 on 3 basketball tournaments will be available to enjoy. If games aren’t your thing, then sit back and cheer on the Astros game while enjoying great fellowship.

Come for the fellowship, stay for the competition and grilled brats and hot dogs. Tribe and Youth who attend must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The cost is $12/person, and sign up is required by end of business on Wednesday, April 24.

Women's Fellowship

There aren’t many places in our lives where we sit across table from women with wisdom and life experience beyond our own and women with fresh perspective and youthful passion different from our own. And fewer still are those places where those women are genuinely invested in us - our health and our joy - with an agape love and grace. We’ve planned exactly that place for the women and girls of South Main Baptist Church at 5:30 PM on Saturday, April 27.

In addition to conversation and a lovely meal prepared by Miss Sherrie, Alicia Gilpin, M.A., LPC of the Rise Wellness Group leads us to consider the importance of mental health in women and girls and how relationships with other women - especially multigenerational - are crucial to our well being. We hope you and those you love will join us for this special evening.

Lord's Supper Sunday

We’ll gather in worship for the conclusion of our Wise Words series and share the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper together around our communal table. Following the Bible Study hour, we’ll gather around different tables in Turner Fellowship Hall for a delicious meal and our quarterly business meeting. Then, what better way to end a Sunday than ordaining our Minister to Children, Alyssa Carter, into the gospel ministry!
