Steve has been pastor of South Main Baptist Church since March of 2003. Steve grew up in Lubbock, Texas, and attended Baylor University, where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy in 1990. Steve was a member of the first graduating class of Baylor’s Truett Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity summa cum laude (1997) and a Doctor of Ministry (2003), concentrating in Preaching and Worship. Before coming to South Main, he served as pastor of churches in Texas and Mississippi. He is an active presence in the Houston community, collaborating with and fostering relationships with other churches of different denominations and racial make-up and having served on the Houston Police Chief’s Multi-Faith Advisory Council and the Mayor’s Task Force on Police Reform. Steve also currently serves on the Baylor Board of Regents. Family is central to Steve’s life, providing a bedrock of comfort and encouragement throughout his years of ministry. Steve and his late wife, Missy, shared 34 wonderful years together and raised three children. He loves spending time with his sons Ben and Joshua, daughter Rachel and son-in-law Blake, and grandchildren Fischer, Lila, and Shepherd.
