Ministerial Team

Steve Wells

Pastor

Steve has been pastor of South Main since March of 2003. Steve grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He attended Baylor University, where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy (1990). Steve was a member of the first graduating class of Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity summa cum laude (1997) and a Doctor of Ministry (2003), concentrating in Preaching and Worship. Before coming to South Main, he served as pastor of churches in Texas and Mississippi. Steve met his wife, Missy Yeary Wells, at Baylor. (Fun fact: Missy’s father, Dan Yeary, was Associate Pastor at South Main when she was a child. Missy was baptized at South Main by Ken Chafin and was delighted to be able to return to Houston and South Main.) Steve and Missy were married in August 1990 and have three grown children: Rachel, Ben, and Joshua.

Carey Cannon joined the staff of South Main in July 2013. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from UNC-Greensboro, Master of Arts in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance from George Mason University, and Bachelor of Arts from Furman University. Carey moved to Houston from Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served nine years as minister of music at Providence Baptist Church. While in Charlotte, Carey was an Associate Conductor for the Charlotte Children’s Choir and Adjunct Faculty for the UNC-Charlotte Men’s Glee. Prior to his call to ministry, Carey was stationed in Washington, D.C., as a bass vocalist with the U.S. Army Chorus and performed regularly for heads of state, dignitaries, and White House events. In addition to his time in service, Carey served as a chorister with the National Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys. Carey and his wife, Janet, were married in 2003 and have two children: Caroline and Duncan.

Greg grew up in Houston, Texas. He attended Baylor University, where he earned a BA in History in 1987, and was named Phi Beta Kappa. Greg attended law school at the University of Texas School of Law, earning a Juris Doctorate in 1990. Greg practiced law in Houston with Funderburk & Funderburk, LLP, specializing in civil litigation, from 1990 to 2011 before experiencing a call to ministry. Greg and his wife, Kelly, joined South Main as members in April 1994. Greg joined the South Main staff in 2012. They have two sons, Hank and Charlie.

Brad Jernberg

Minister of Administration for Operations

Brad Jernberg joined the staff of South Main in 2014. He earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Brad was a choral director and music educator in Austin prior to hearing a call to ministry. For more than a decade, he served as a music minister and church administrator, most recently at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas. He has been a member of the National Association of Church Business Administration since 2009, and is active in the local Houston chapter. Brad is married to Margaret (who grew up in South Main), and they have two sons: William and Jack.

Susan Moore

Minister of Administration for Communications

Susan grew up moving around the Southeast. She attended Auburn University, where she earned a B.S. in Mathematics and a Masters of Education in Math Education. She also met her husband, Bill, at Auburn. After pursuing her dream of curing the world of “math-phobia” for a few years, Susan and her family eventually landed in Houston, joining South Main in 1993. Susan served as South Main's Childcare Coordinator from 1995 to 2013 and Ministry Coordinator from 2009 to 2015. South Main ordained Susan as a Minister in 2015. Susan and Bill have three grown children: Jonathan, Rachel, and Rebecca.

Dolores Rader

Dolores grew up in southern Illinois and moved to Texas to attend Texas A&M University, where she received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. Dolores spent eighteen years at NASA-Johnson Space Center, where she was responsible for training the very first crew to live onboard the International Space Station, and for developing and coordinating astronaut training for Russian, European, and Japanese space agencies. Dolores and her husband, Steve, were married at South Main in 1994, and are the parents of Anna, Abigail, and Lauren. Dolores answered a call to ministry and joined the South Main ministerial team as Minister to Children in March 2008. In January 2017, Dolores became our Minister to Families and oversees the Family Ministry team.
