Steve Wells
Pastor
Steve has been pastor of South Main since March of 2003. Steve grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He attended Baylor University, where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy (1990). Steve was a member of the first graduating class of Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity summa cum laude (1997) and a Doctor of Ministry (2003), concentrating in Preaching and Worship. Before coming to South Main, he served as pastor of churches in Texas and Mississippi. Steve met his wife, Missy Yeary Wells, at Baylor. (Fun fact: Missy’s father, Dan Yeary, was Associate Pastor at South Main when she was a child. Missy was baptized at South Main by Ken Chafin and was delighted to be able to return to Houston and South Main.) Steve and Missy were married in August 1990 and have three grown children: Rachel, Ben, and Joshua.
Susan Moore
Executive Minister
Susan grew up moving around the Southeast. She attended Auburn University, where she earned a B.S. in Mathematics and a Masters of Education in Math Education. She also met her husband, Bill, at Auburn. After pursuing her dream of curing the world of “math-phobia” for a few years, Susan and her family eventually landed in Houston, joining South Main in 1993. Susan served as South Main's Childcare Coordinator from 1995 to 2013 and Ministry Coordinator from 2009 to 2015. South Main ordained Susan as a Minister in 2015. Susan and Bill have three grown children: Jonathan, Rachel, and Rebecca.
Amy Brown
Minister to Youth
Amy Brown joined the SMBC staff in May, 2021 as our Minister to Youth and is a member of our Family Ministry Team. Amy is a native of North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science degree before obtaining a Masters in Divinity from Gardner-Webb University’s School of Divinity. She began serving as Minister to Students at First Baptist in Anderson, South Carolina in November of 2013 and has also served as Moderator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of South Carolina. She's the President-Elect of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s Youth Ministry Network board and brings great energy and expertise to South Main. She has a passion for missions, community involvement, and guiding young people toward God and the work of Christ in the world.
Adam Cogliano
Minister for Music and Worship
Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Adam attended Baylor University, where he received a Bachelor of Music in Church Music (vocal emphasis) and a Master of Music in Church Music (conducting emphasis). He also received a Master of Divinity from Baylor’s Truett Seminary. While in school, Adam served churches in Waco and Valley Mills, Texas, before moving to Dalton, Georgia, serving as Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church in Dalton. In 2022, Adam joined the South Main staff as Minister for Music and Worship. Adam met his wife, Kelsey, while singing in choir together at Baylor, and they were married in 2018. Kelsey is an Elementary Music Teacher in Pearland ISD.
Greg Funderburk
Minister for Pastoral Care
Greg grew up in Houston, Texas. He attended Baylor University, where he earned a BA in History in 1987, and was named Phi Beta Kappa. Greg attended law school at the University of Texas School of Law, earning a Juris Doctorate in 1990. Greg practiced law in Houston with Funderburk & Funderburk, LLP, specializing in civil litigation, from 1990 to 2011 before experiencing a call to ministry. Greg and his wife, Kelly, joined South Main as members in April 1994. Greg joined the South Main staff in 2012. They have two sons, Hank and Charlie.
J Hill
Minister for Missions
J Hill grew up moving around the world as do many energy industry families. After landing in Houston, J attended Stephen F. Austin University where he received a B.A. in Political Theory and International History, followed by an M.F.A. in Sculpture in 1993. J has taught visual art at a number of universities. He also has a successful art practice in sculpture and community arts during which he has exhibited nationally and internationally, receiving multiple awards and grants. J joined the staff of South Main in 2016 as the Missions Coordinator then was ordained into gospel ministry in 2022. J is married to Hillevi, and they have a daughter, Isabella.
Brad Jernberg
Minister for Administration
Brad Jernberg joined the staff of South Main in 2014. He earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Austin. Brad was a choral director and music educator in Austin prior to hearing a call to ministry. For more than a decade, he served as a music minister and church administrator, most recently at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas. He has been a member of the National Association of Church Business Administration since 2009, and is active in the local Houston chapter. Brad is married to Margaret (who grew up in South Main), and they have two sons: William and Jack.
Dolores Rader
Minister to Families
Dolores grew up in southern Illinois and moved to Texas to attend Texas A&M University, where she received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. Dolores spent eighteen years at NASA-Johnson Space Center, where she was responsible for training the very first crew to live onboard the International Space Station, and for developing and coordinating astronaut training for Russian, European, and Japanese space agencies. Dolores and her husband, Steve, were married at South Main in 1994, and are the parents of Anna, Abigail, and Lauren. Dolores answered a call to ministry and joined the South Main ministerial team as Minister to Children in March 2008. In January 2017, Dolores became our Minister to Families and oversees the Family Ministry team.
Matt Walton
Minister for Discipleship
Matt Walton joined the staff of South Main in October 2018. Matt grew up in College Station, Texas. He attended East Texas Baptist University, where he received a B.A. in Speech Communications. As well, Matt attended Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry, concentrating on discipleship strategies and life-long conversion in the transition from adolescence into early adulthood. Matt moved to Houston from San Angelo, Texas where he served for eleven years at Southland Baptist Church. Prior to joining the South Main staff Matt served as Associate Pastor of Missions and Spiritual Formation. Matt met his wife Kristie while at ETBU, and they have two children: Evan and Finley.
