Programs and Ensembles

South Main Baptist Church has a long tradition of making beautiful music, both in worship and for the benefit of the greater community. South Main's choral and children’s music education programs extend back more than half a century and draw on some of the finest talent in the Houston area. Between the Sanctuary Choir, vocal and instrumental ensembles, bell choirs, and youth and children's programs, there is a place for everyone to make a “joyful noise”—whatever your age and gifts.

Adult Choir and Vocal Ensembles

The Sanctuary Choir of South Main Baptist Church provides music for most Sunday morning worship services throughout the year. The choir rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:35 PM. No audition is necessary.

One Accord is a select men’s ensemble that sings in worship periodically, rehearsing on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.

Chamber Choir is a select ensemble of mixed voices that sings in worship periodically, rehearsing on Wednesdays at 6:25 PM.

Each group performs an extensive range of styles and genres for worship services and community events. All choir and ensemble members experience a unique path for spiritual growth, encountering theological truths both through the texts that we sing and through the community of singing together.

If you have any questions about joining an ensemble, please contact Adam Cogliano.

Adult Instrumental Ensembles

The South Main Bronze is a handbell choir made up of talented ringers which plays periodically in morning worship. The ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM.

The South Main Brass is an ensemble of brass instruments which plays occasionally in worship services and for special programs throughout the year. The ensemble is open to players with medium to high proficiency. Members rehearse on Wednesday nights at 7:00 PM.

In addition to these ensembles, instrumentalists are sometimes needed for special music and may be featured in worship.

If you are new to South Main and would like to share your musical gifts, please contact Adam Cogliano.

Youth Ensembles

South Main’s vocal and bell ensembles for young people extend and deepen the musical education that kids receive in school and also provide meaningful opportunities to lead in worship. These programs share the goals of the Family Ministry—encouraging kids to celebrate and navigate their way toward an authentic and lasting faith in Christ by experiencing and expressing their faith through music.

There are four ensembles for pre-teens and teens. No auditions are needed—we all share our gifts together.

  • The 527 Tribe and Youth vocal choir (5th-12th graders) meets on Wednesdays at 5:50 PM
  • The 527 Tribe handbell choir (5th-7th graders) meets on Wednesdays at 6:25 PM
  • Youth handbell choir (8th-12th graders) meets on Wednesdays at 6:25 PM

Children’s Music Ministry

For more than 50 years, South Main’s children’s music programming has inspired children to praise God with voices and instruments, singing, playing, and developing their unique talents with some of the finest musical teachers in Houston.

Every Wednesday evening during the school year, from 5:50 PM to 7:00 PM, children in Pre-K through 4th grade meet in grade-level choirs and/or handbell ensembles.

Special Music

South Main has offered many special musical events and projects over the years. Some of the more recent projects have been a Sanctuary Choir album, a concert with our surrounding Main Street church, our Sanctuary Choir performing Mozart’s Requiem, and a digital Christmas performance.
