Today was our fourth day in Peru and our third day with the OSA kids, and it was life-changing. In the morning we went to Dr. Luis's old school, where we sang, and I had the amazing opportunity to play my trumpet for the students there. We also got to talk to the students in their classrooms, and they understood English fairly well.
After the school, we took a tour of the Cathedral of Lima, which was unbelievably beautiful. There were so many incredible works of art and interesting artifacts. However, the most amazing thing was the catacombs underneath the cathedral where we got the chance to sing one of our songs. It was absolutely incredible. Words can't describe how moving it was. It's a memory I'll never forget.
Once we got back to Collique, we sang and danced with the kids, and I noticed something special. Even when the kids weren't in music, they were singing the songs we taught them. The power of music is so mysterious and awesome, and today was filled with it. I can't think of anything more special to give to these children than music, the universal language.
David McKnight just finished his Junior Year at Dawson High School in Pearland, where he is active is band playing multiple brass instruments. He is the son of Cleavy and Lynda, and the brother of Chase.
