Finding God can come at the most unusual of times. I have a lifetime history of undiagnosed Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Any readers who were also my childhood Sunday School teachers are shaking your heads, thinking about how obvious this was to you 40 years ago. It's OK.

Along with this condition come some life-enriching features:
-High energy
-Hyper-focus (a coping mechanism wherein I can get loads of complex work done in long binges of dedicated effort)
-Contagious enthusiasm.

While those gifts have been helpful in my life and career, I prayed for relief on a recent jog, particularly fed up with how broken and stressed the condition can make me feel. My tears flowed as I dwelled on the condition's impact on those I love.

Cue God's calming, clear voice.

In the midst of jogging through a surreal Houston mist on a street framed by huge live oaks, there was God's voice, riffing off of the 80s lyrics on my playlist. He reminded me that He loves me. Forever. For ALL of who I am. No matter what. And all He wants is intimate communion with even imperfect me. After all, it's why He created us in the first place. Right?
