The King's Singers at South Main

I am beyond excited to share a little about The King's Singers performing live in the Sanctuary of South Main Baptist Church on Thursday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. As of this writing, there are still tickets available, so purchase them here.

I have known of The King's Singers for decades but recently heard them live for the first time at the Mormon Tabernacle. When South Main's Sanctuary renovation was finally completed, I knew the acoustics were something to behold. The space is well balanced for musical highs and lows. I wanted to have opportunities for the congregation to hear more than just the organ, a chance for folks to hear the pristine sound of the choral tone. It is a beautiful and balanced choral sound that simply resonates in our Sanctuary. I immediately thought of The King's Singers, and we were fortunate to be able to book them during their GOLD World Tour to world renowned venues in Europe, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Carnegie Hall, and more.

May 1, 1968 was the very first performance where this group was introduced as "The King's Singers," and what a history the group has had since then. The sound, the type of arrangements, the kinds of songs that they sang 50 years ago are exactly like what you will hear on Thursday. The way the songs are crafted and performed enable them to carry their voices to the audience without microphones and instruments. For this anniversary tour, the ensemble will be going back through their old repertoire, resurrecting some of the old favorites, while also introducing new pieces, some from new composers, in honor of this 50 year celebration.

Thursday's concert will have a diverse range from early music to contemporary pop, some serious and some light, sacred pieces and of course their traditional crowd favorites. The sound, the type of arrangements, the type of songs that they have sung for five decades are exactly like what you will hear at South Main.

We have a rich history at South Main of amazing performances from the likes of Jester Hairston, Esther Hines, Anton Armstrong, and more. The King's Singers' notoriety, popularity, and international prowess truly takes it to the next level. It is something to behold, something truly special to have them in our presence and singing with our own church ensembles. We can't wait to host this acclaimed group at South Main Baptist Church.
