On this fourth Sunday in Lent, we follow in the Way of the Cross by practicing gratitude and generosity. The Parable of the Rich Fool demonstrates the danger of hoarding the blessings of God as if they are scarce instead of abundant—in fact, for Jesus, hoarding blessings is the definition of foolishness. Thus, we are called to ask ourselves how we can be a conduit for blessing others. Our service this Sunday will begin with the hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness, hinging on the familiar line, “All I have needed Thy hand hath provided.” This line propels us forward into a time of confessing our sins and celebrating God’s forgiveness, and we will end the service in response and full-hearted commitment by singing I Surrender All.
